Jozi fashion show
THE MERCEDES-Benz Fashion Week Joburg (MBFWJ) kicks off today and for the next three days, designers will be showcasing their latest ranges in sartorial garbs.
Fashion fans can also expect to see the clothes modelled by fresh faces as well as wellknown catwalk models in various venues in Melrose Arch until Saturday.
Familiar model faces and figures include Aymeline Valade, who is ranked one of the top 50 in her field in the world, Grace Mahary who has recently been added onto the Victoria’s Secret angels roster and Roberta Narciso from Angola, who has graced prestigious catwalks in Paris, New York and Milan.
Deon Redman, casting director for the fashion week, said: “AFI runways are exciting because we often see new models breaking out globally after strutting through MercedesBenz Fashion Week Joburg and Cape Town.
“This season I am firmly focused on exciting new faces from Africa and around the world that will be joining our model ranks, and providing them with a platform to success.”
Another recognisable face to look out for will be that of Queen Onyemaechi, who won last year’s Nigeria’s Next Top Supermodel competition.
“We will also welcome back the ‘New Face of the Year’ nominees from last year’s Africa Fashion Awards – Bianca Brombin, Imade Bolanle Ogbewi and winner Favour Lucky.
“Any one of these new faces could go on to take fashion’s global runways by storm in the near future, which is an exciting possibility” Redman added.
All these models will walk for well-known designers such as David Tlale, Gavin Rajah and Stefania Morland.
Today’s first show will kick off at 6pm with Khosi Nkosi’s range.
