‘The Buzz’ has Africa covered

- MUNYA VOMO

In its quest to make its mark on African soil, BET continues to make content that resonates with African viewers. Their latest addition to their African content is The Buzz, an entertainment news show that aims to showyou what’s happening on the continent and in international news. The hosts are former Metro FM black carpet presenter, Selimathunzi guest presenter and singer, Tamasha Khanyile, and BET Top Actor winner, Altovise Lawrence.

“I am feeling great. I am excited. It’s easy to throw a big name in a show and it will work. But now that I am still new, I am a bit nervous. I have high expectations of myself and the only person I can fail is me,” said Lawrence.

For her, the selling point of this show is the fact that African entertainment news will be featured and this will grow the brand.

“I am so excited that we will be covering the African continent because there is so much that needs to be covered. There are so many people who need the exposure. What better place than on BET, a global brand?” she said.

While some of the work will be done in the studio, the hosts get to go out into the field to cover the latest news as it happens on the local and international fronts.

“We will be attending events, interviewing people on the red carpet and bringing you hot news while it is still hot. We don’t want it to feel like you are just watching another show. I want you to be there with me,” explained Lawrence.

The one thing that people will enjoy about Lawrence is her skill as a presenter even though she has never done it before.

“I have never presented before. BET was the first place that took me in as a presenter for a show. I studied drama so it helps,” she said.

Her much more established partner on the screen, Khanyile, actually chanced upon The Buzz gig. She happened to be in the right place at the right time.

“A friend told me about the auditions the night before. I was shooting something else at the time and attended without many expectations, but I gave it my best and here we are,” she said.

Reiterating what Lawrence had pointed out, Khanyile said that The Buzz was a platform to grow African entertainment to international standards.

“The one good thing about this show is that it does a great job of bridging the gaps in the African entertainment industry. I am a winner of the presenter search and am a black ambitious woman. I would like to reach a few goals of my own while I’m still here,” she said.

will start on September 1 on BET (DStv channel 129 ) at 7pm.
