THE FUTURE looks cute for the SAPS, after a seven-yearold police hopeful went viral over the weekend.

Adorable Luwanda Kwame has more than 20 000 people rooting for her online after the SAPS posted about her on its Facebook page.

The post read: “Luwanda, a seven-year old from Robert Carruthers Primary School in Witbank, today shocked her teachers and fellow learners when they were asked what they want to become when they grow up.

“Luwanda boldly told them she wants to become a policewoman.”

She lives in eMalahleni with her grandmother, who wanted to take the child’s dream to the next level.

“She always tells her granny about her dreams of becoming a policewoman.”

Her grandma had to knit a blue skirt resembling an SAPS uniform as well as a shirt.

“Today (Friday) she was at Witbank police station with her granny, saluted officers and left them pleasantly surprised. She told them she’s going to be the next station commander of Witbank police station.”

The post was shared with pictures of their outing to the police station, along with a video of Luwanda, saying she wants to be a policewoman because she likes the uniform, wants to teach bad guys a lesson and keep South Africa safe.

The internet lapped her up. Hanlie Grundling wrote: “I hope the SAPS keeps this in its archives so that we can be reminded periodically, as she achieves all her goals up to, and including, national commissioner. What an inspiration!”

Although some tried to include political agendas in the comments section, many defended the innocence of the child and the story.

Ntsikelelo Kaleni said: “The child wants to be a police officer, let alone a commander. I support her dream, and you ought to encourage her, not discourage her.“

“I salute the granny for keeping the dream alive. Our kids needs our support so they can reach their destiny. #GrannyforGold,” said Leah M Ramolahloane.
