Napoli survive Sharks

-

ROME: The 10 men of Napoli won 2-1 at Crotone yesterday to go third in Serie A and within four points of leaders Juventus.

The title holders lost 1-0 at AC Milan Saturday to stay top on 21 points from nine games, with the Rossoneri going second on 19.

Napoli won at the newcomers despite the dismissal of Manolo Gabbiadini.

The striker had a shot saved before Jose Callejon struck from close range on 17 minutes and was then red-carded on 31 over a reaction foul, but Nikola Maksimovic tapped in two minutes later. Aleandro Rosi pulled one back late in the game but it was too little for the hosts.

Newcomers Crotone stay last on one point as they played their first game at the renovated Ezio Scida stadium.

Fiorentina won 5-3 at Cagliari from a Nikola Klinic hat-trick and Federico Bernardeschi’s brace to go ninth on 12 points, leading Genoa and Sassuolo on goal difference.

A 2-1 defeat at Atalanta held Inter Milan on 11 points. The Bergamo hosts, now on 13, went ahead on 10 minutes from Andrea Masiello’s header and saw Mauricio Pinilla convert a penalty with two minutes to go.

Eder scored an equaliser on 50 with a free-kick that Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini contested firmly enough to receive a dismissal.

In Turin, an Iago Falque header put Torino ahead on 20 minutes, but Lazio bounced back from Ciro Immobile’s volley and reversed the tie with a header from substitute Alessandro Murgia. Il Toro levelled for 2-2 in injury-time as Adem Ljajic converted from the spot.

Chievo had Lucas Castro dismissed with 10 minutes left in a scoreless draw at Empoli. – dpa
