AFRIKAANS rock sensations Arno Carstens and Francois van Coke are set to keep audiences on their feet when they perform together in Gauteng later this month.

The musicians will take to the stage at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena in a bid to promote their successful single Ek Weet Nie.

The pair are staging the concert in a bid to heed the demands of their many fans.

“Due to public demand, these two rock legends continue their partnership with the rock event of the year in a special concert,” Lefra Productions marketing manager Carl Senekal said.

Carstens is no stranger to the local music world, and has released 12 albums.

Five of them were as the lead singer of Springbok Nude Girls, one as part of Electronica project Bhelltower and six as a solo artist.

He has had more than 20 top 10 singles and won five SAMAs, including Best Rock Album in 2004 for Another Universe and Best Adult Contemporary Album in 2006 for The Hello Goodbye Boys.

In September last year, Carstens released his debut Afrikaans album called Die Aandblom 13.

He admitted he had a difficulty writing songs for the album as he had previously written English ones.

“Afrikaans is my mother tongue, so I could really explore the essence of the language, and as a result, with this album the songs evolved from poetry, and the music was added afterwards,” he said.

Following the completion of the album, Carstens went back to 13 Aandblom Street to photograph the album cover artwork, which featured a montage of the interior of the house where he grew up.

Van Coke, the lead singer of Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel, is also a force to be reckoned with in the Afrikaans music industry.

In April 2015, he kicked off his solo career with the launch of his self-titled debut solo album, with many of his songs topping the music charts.

Following this success, he released Ek Weet Nie last year with Carstens.

The concert will take place on February 24 and tickets are available through Computicket.

Groups of more than 10 will receive substantial discounts.
