Zapiro ‘among terror attack targets’
SOME of the targets who were to be hit by the terrorist attack that was allegedly being planned by the Thulsie brothers included cartoonist Zapiro and Jewish South African investment banker Roy Topol.
These are some of the shocking revelations that emerged yesterday at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, where Brandon-Lee and Tony-Lee Thulsie, 23, made a brief appearance before magistrate Pieter du Plessis.
Other targets outlined in the provisional 13-page indictment, seen by The Star, are the UK High Commission in Pretoria; King David School in Linksfield, Joburg; Shia mosques in Gauteng; and state-owned weapons manufacturing company Denel.
State prosecutor Chris MacAdam also notified the court that an additional fraud charge relating to the brothers presenting fraudulent documentation to Home Affairs officials had been added. Passports in the names of Leroy Christian Adams and Troy Germain Adams were presented to officials at the Lesotho-South Africa border by the Thulsie brothers on August 9, 2015.
MacAdam also told the court that there would be documentation drawn up to finalise the transfer of the case to be heard at the high court. Once the details of the transfer were finalised, a date for the pre-trial hearing would be scheduled.
The twins have been in custody since their arrest in July last year. Since then, they have attempted to have their arrest declared unconstitutional, a bid that failed. They also abandoned a bail application in October last year.
After the hearing, senior family members of the Thulsie family were emotional and walked out of the court in tears.
The matter was postponed to May 15.
