Music festival promises local and international acts

THE annual Fête de la Musique is back in town. Now in it’s sixth year, this edition will have a strong line-up and four stages to make sure fans get the most from some of their favourite artists.

Through this event, musicians and bands are encouraged to perform, entertain, express themselves, and never stop generating music for future generations. There will be a host of street performers, a food area and bars and restaurants open for the duration of the event.

Last year, more than 8000 people attended the event which was previously held in Melville. On the four stages organisers say there will be various styles of music for every taste.

The Alliance Française of Johannesburg, the French Institute of South Africa, Total SA, the Market Theatre Foundation and Bassline Live will make the event come to life.

International acts and South African’s favourite established and emerging talents will entertain throughout the day. Singer Adelle Nqeto, Alexandra’s Bambanani Brass Band, rock band Bye Beneco, three piece band Johnny Cradle, Josh Kempen and The Sextons are some of the SA acts that will be performing on the day.

Singer, dancer and choreographer Just Robyn will also be on stage singing songs from her Mustard Seed debut album. The talented Nakhane Touré will also give fans a taste of his award-winning music from the Brave Confusion album. Kajama and Shef & The Kitchen are also in the line-up.

Lesotho singer and songwriter Leomile will be singing popular songs like Lerato le Felile, Pula and Fantasize for her fans.

International artists will include Mozambican artist Samito who is based in Montreal, Canada.

The music producer and singer blends acoustic and electronica with African beats to get unique sounds.

More artists are to be announced before the event which will take place on Saturday June 17 at the Newtown Junction Precinct from 11am to 6pm. Entrance is free. – Staff Reporter
