Zille’s tweets not DA’s fault

- Rev Maudu Morudu

SEEMINGLY, the Helen Zille’s colonialism tweet saga has come to an end.

She has apologised and the DA has taken a resolution that she is not going to participate in any decision-making structures of the party but retains her position as the Western Cape premier.

In response to Zille’s tweet, the EFF leader Julius Malema made it public that Zille must be removed as premier or else the EFF is going to withdraw from coalition government with the DA in metro municipalities like Tshwane.

I regard Malema’s remarks as hazardous.

Malema needs to be reminded that Zille’s colonialism tweet was absolutely not a representation of the DA. Neither the DA nor the Western Cape provincial government delegated her to post that tweet.

It was her sole view and unfortunately, the entire DA had to be painted by her ill-favoured tweet. It can’t be that there must be a divorce in the political marriage between the DA and the EFF in the DA-run metro municipalities because of Zille’s tweet.

I must admit it was not an easy move for the EFF to assist the DA to unseat the ANC from running those metro municipalities. Doubtless, the two parties are not like-minded.

Nevertheless, the EFF had to choose the DA which Malema labelled as “the better devil”, to fight the common political enemy, the ANC.

Now that the DA has resolved the Zille colonialism tweet saga, I guess the EFF will accept that resolution.

It is crucial for leaders like Malema to know that the interests of those they are leading come first. Temba, Hammanskraal
