Best and worst of Durban July
THE ANNUAL Vodacom Durban July is one of the biggest horseracing events on the continent – and it’s just as famous as a fashion spectacle.
This past weekend’s event at the Greyville racecourse lived up to its billing, with the fashionistas descending en masse, flaunting the fashion theme “The Colour of Magic”.
Our reporters Toby Ngomane (TN) and Modiegi Mashamaite (MM) dissected the best, worst and most unusual outfits. Worst dressed: Zodwa Wabantu
TN: From the front, back or side, I don’t understand this outfit. Why is there a slit into her crack and why did she even bother with that beige bra? This is a miss of note.
MM: Where is the rest of your dress? Everything looks wrong. The dress, shoes, hair and make-up look like a lastminute arrangement.
The thigh-high slit is way too revealing and the detailing at the back is terrible. This look gets the fashionistas’ award for Painful Cry for Attention. Best dressed: Ayanda Thabethe
TN: I’ll let Ayanda take best dressed, she didn’t look great but she was one of the better ones. She looked good, her make-up was beautifully understated and her dress had really beautiful detailing.
With her glow, she takes my nod for best dressed.
MM: My favourite look of the day. She looked like a magical goddess. The make-up was perfect and the sleek hair was gorgeous. Wow, what a luminous glow. The detailing of the dress is amazing. All round perfection!
Most unusual: Keneilwe Mothoa and Shelley Mokoena
TN: The duo in red looked breathtaking. From their makeup to their shoes and to their hair. These outfits hit the mark. Although a little too Solange Knowles, I think these ladies dressed successfully to impress.
MM: I absolutely love the colour they wore. It was bold and followed the theme without being too direct.
I also like the whimsical blouse with ruffles and flirty fringe pants.
Although I thought it was an overuse of red, the hair and red lips definitely made a bold statement.
