SA’s top designers at Fashion Week
FASHIONISTAS are in for a treat at this year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg, to be held in Midrand next month.
Some of the country’s best designers have announced their participation in the glamorous gathering.
The style extravaganza gives designers a platform to present their unique Spring/ Summer collections to fashion enthusiasts.
This week, African Fashion International (AFI), which own and operate two prestigious fashion week platforms, revealed those who will take their creations to the catwalk.
This includes the likes of fashion icons David Tlale, Gavin Rajah, Khosi Nkosi and Quiteria & George.
AFI Founder and chief executive Dr Precious MoloiMotsepe says special effort will be made to ensure that South Africa’s very best designers get a chance to showcase at this season’s fashion week.
“We have collaborated with South African and African fashion design royalty to offer a world-class spectacular of refined African apparel and accessories,” says MoloiMotsepe.
She adds that the selection of designers is made to divers- ity.
“We are also delighted to welcome collections from young designers who are making waves in the fashion world, with the overall programme sure to grab the attention of media, industry experts and fashionistas alike.
“David Tlale will introduce a selection of young designers yet to produce their own collections, but who display the potential to take their own place on a Fashion Week programme with the help and guidance of a visionary mentor like David,” says Moloi-Motsepe.
Other fashion week well known favourites include Leigh Schubert, Marianne Fassler, Fabiani, KLUK CGDT and Thula Sindi.
They will be joined by other industry-leaders, Haute Baso, KL Tsotetsi, Orapeleng Modutle Style Avenue, Ruff Tung, Sheria Ngowi, Spero, Stefania Morland and TN Collective.
“We are delighted to welcome designers from across South Africa and further afield who appreciate the value of showing their collections to the discerning Gauteng market,” said Moloi-Motsepe.
Other quality designers who are making their debut at the event include Sheria Ngowi from Tanzania, Chidinma Obairi from Nigeria and Vizuvlgvds from the US.
