Defaults on payments lead to high water bill

-

FREDDIE NYATHELA OF NEWTOWN WRITES:

It is unfortunate that the City of Johannesburg continues to ignore its untoward invoices, especially the one with an amount of R531 289.99 for water for one month.

The city has failed for more than a decade to provide evidence regarding this untoward billing, and continues with its bullying and dishonest tactics.

The truth and facts are… the City of Joburg and its dishonest officials (cabals) have tried by all means to see to it that the only black property owner – a unique training organisation – an NPO, lose its property in a development area in Newtown, Johannesburg.

That is why even the two previous executive mayors, Amos Masondo and Parks Tau, also failed to genuinely and decisively address this untoward matter – this is a fact.

This is another dishonest communication of the city in perpetuating its evil conduct towards a unique and dynamic youth empowerment organisation which the City of Johannesburg should have been supporting.

JOBURG WATER REPLIES:

In 2013, there was an order indicating an internal leak and the stopcock was repaired on two occasions in 2014 and in 2015.

The repairs on the stopcock could not have contributed to higher consumption.

No adjustment is warranted on the account.

Please be advised the matter will be resolved in accordance to the outcome received from Joburg Water.

The meters are read on a monthly basis.

The charges that the client questioned are based on actual consumption.

The client does not make payments on a monthly basis, which, therefore, causes the outstanding balance on the water account to accumulate.

The matter is resolved.
