Evening of love with Donald

Birchwood Comes Alive Jazz Evening returns to celebrate love

- MPILETSO MOTUMI

AFTER a sensational closing event in December, the Birchwood Comes Alive Jazz evening is back to thrill music lovers.

This Friday, the event, which has been a favourite in Ekurhuleni for the past 17 years, will host singer Donald for a special celebration of love.

The Crazy But Amazing singer will be serenading the audience with his famous red mic, which will be fitting for the romantic evening.

Donald, whose full name is Donald Moatshe, is known for his love tunes, including Runaway Love, Your Joy and I Deserve, and will have the audience eating out of the palm of his hand when he goes on stage.

He once said in an interview that he only comes alive when he is on stage, so those in attendance for the event will be in for a real treat.

“Being an artist comes with a lot of layers. I am a songwriter and I also arrange music.

“I create a moment within a song. On stage I deliver that message,” Moatshe said.

Having worked with some of the best in the business, including Zonke and Malaika as a backup singer, Moatshe always knew he would become a top artist.

The award-winning musician said he was always reinventing himself as an R&B artist in the country.

Joining Moatshe on Friday will be fellow genre crooners Beyond Vocal and new artist Nwabisa Mxakatho.

Mxakatho released her debut album, Iphupho Lam, in April last year. The confident musician is an Afro pop singer who blends a variety of rhythms in her music to get her unique sound.

Beyond Vocal are an a cappella crew made up of five men who met in church. The group released their first single back in 2016.

Their songs are about love, inspiration and positivity.

“Beyond just the vocals there is a message in everything we do,” the group said.

Returning to the Birchwood stage is ventriloquist and comedian Chik Aljoy.

Resident MC Hector Motivator will be there to keep the audience fresh for each act.

Tickets are R2 200 per couple and include a three-course buffet, accommodation and breakfast. Alternatively, standard tickets, including a threecourse buffet, are R450 per a person.
