The Star Late Edition

A show that Covers all the bases on celebrities

-

ONE THING we haven’t had on TV in a long time is unapologetic journalism. The only thing that remains after 3rd Degree was cancelled, is Carte Blanche. If you are into hard-hitting questions and balanced interviews with local celebrities, you need to check out The Cover, coming to Vuzu. Siya “Scoop” Ngwekazi will host celebrities who are willing to share intimate details about their lives with the public. Actress and TV host, Thembisa Mdoda, is one of them.

“People don’t get to know the people they see on TV on a personal level. This is a chance for people to know what I am really about,” she said.

This show allowed her to tell her story in the most honest way possible. She has had many milestones in her life and takes the viewer through the years of her existence.

“I sat with Scoop and told him everything. Where I was born and where I went to school. It was nice to share that part about myself. It also gave me introspection into how far I have come. I agreed to do it because in the show I’m in ( Our Perfect Wedding), people never really get to know me. I know The Cover is a reality show, but I am presented as myself. I don’t get to do a lot of interviews. The channel asked me to and I thought that there is no time like the present.”

While this is a hardhitting show, Mdoda confessed that she did not agree to talk about absolutely everything because some facets of her life are painful.

“I think every person has some things they would rather not talk about. We have gone through so much pain in our lives, but I think signing up for this show was therapeutic because you get to speak about everything. I believe that people should watch it because it is a great reveal,” she said.

The Cover is thorough and yet sensitive to its guests, something Mdoda feels local media fail to do.

“I have come to realise that the media in general are not kind to women. Yes, I am going to say this in Women’s Month. I am basing this on the stories they choose to tell in the Sunday papers. They never ever publish anything positive. That’s how tabloids are. So Scoop tailors the questions on a personal level and this is why you can’t help but chat for an hour,” she said.

“South Africa was not ready for this, but I think it is time. The show is an honest reveal on the stories of the people who are featured.”

The Cover premieres September 19 at 7pm on Vuzu AMP (DStv channel 103).
