MORETELE Park in Mamelodi, Tshwane, will bring together music lovers of various genres when the venue hosts a star-studded concert on Saturday.

The Moretele Tribute Concert Festival, now celebrating its 19th anniversary, was established to honour local music icons and to offer a platform for the development of local talent.

This year, organisers have partnered with co-sponsor White Star to present a concert featuring an array of artists, including Hugh Masekela, Tsepo Tshola, Jonas Gwangwa, Don Laka, Letta Mbuli, Zonke Dikana, Mafikizolo and Nathi Mankayi.

The concert is one of South Africa’s biggest and attracts an audience of over 15 000 music lovers.

Organisers are expecting a bigger attendance this year.

White Star’s marketing manager Mokhele Makhothi said the company was excited to be part of the concert.

“The relationship between White Star and Moretele Tribute Concert has been a harmonious one since we first came on board as co-sponsor eight years ago.

“Our involvement means we are able to give our consumers a unique experience at this much anticipated musical gathering, and we’re also giving back to the contributors of the arts, who are also our supporters,” she said.

Concert organiser Sam Mhangwani said excitement was already building up among music lovers.

“Every year, this concert continues to draw a large following of likeminded music admirers.

“The support we receive for our local musical icons and art contributors makes it all the more successful and great to be a part of,” he said.

Tickets are available through Computicket or Shoprite Checkers at R250 each.
