Temba gets adventurous with song
MUSICIAN and actor Brian Temba said he wanted to do something African, but in keeping with his R&B melody, when he came up with his second single, My Number 1.
“I wanted to do something different. As a producer and creator, I wanted to challenge myself. Most of the time we never fully do so, we get comfortable with what we do every day,” he said.
Temba acknowledges that his new sound may shock his fans a little.
He said he had a loyal following that he was grateful for, and for the most part his fans loved the songs he put out. “On my last album, the song This Is
My Time was very different and left a lot of people wondering, but in the end they loved it. I have a strong following who are willing to be adventurous with me, I know they will love this single.”
Temba’s nickname is Mr Dominoes, from the hit song on the Nothing Better album.
My Number 1 also features the beatbreaking band Uhuru and comes after the fan favourite Lost Without You.
The theme of the album is love, but it is also about going back to Africa with the many isiZulu songs included.
“Here I have gone even deeper into African sound, tapping into a new market of people,” said Temba.
The album, UnABC, communicates love and life. There is also an interesting story behind naming the album. “It went from being Back-to-Basics to Transparent to UnABC, which means Un-Apologetic, Un-Breakable and Un-Censored. It speaks of my life in the industry.”
The single was due to be released today.
