ORIGINALLY launched a year ago as a special edition limited to 700 units, Isuzu’s X-Rider bakkie is now back as a permanent fixture in the now 19-strong KB lineup.

The X-Rider is based on a normal KB 250 HiRider Double Cab, but adds a set of diamond-cut 18-inch alloys with red centre caps wrapped in General Grabber tyres, a blacked-out front bumper with integrated foglights, tubular side steps and roll bar, and unique “X-Rider” badges.

Also included is a heavy-duty towbar, offering a 2.1-ton tow rating (with a braked trailer).

Special touches inside include leather upholstery with red stitching on the seats, steering wheel and gear lever boot, embroidered X-Rider logos on the headrests, and shiny piano black trims on the dashboard and door panels.

Remote keyless entry, satellite controls on the steering wheel, air conditioning and projector headlights with daytime running lights are fitted as standard equipment.

Three colour choices include Summit Switchblade Silver or Pull Me Over Red.

Mechanically the X-Rider is identical to other 2.5-litre turbodiesel KB 250s, with 100kW and 320Nm driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.

The new X-Rider is priced at R388 400 - a R30 000 premium over the normal KB 250 Hi-Rider Double Cab.

All Isuzu KBs come with 5-year/120 000km warranties and roadside assistance programmes, 5-year/unlimited mileage anti-corrosion warranties and a 5-year/90 000km service plans. Service intervals are 15 000km or twelve months for all derivatives. White, Special 18” alloys, side steps and a roll bar are part of the package.
