THE WORLD’S greatest endurance race starts at 3pm on Saturday afternoon when the 85th running of the Le Mans 24 Hour roars into action.

Hundreds of thousands of spectators at the circuit will be joined by TV viewers from all over the world to watch Porsche and Toyota going head to head in the iconic event, which has become a two-horse race for overall victory following multiple winner Audi’s exit from the World Endurance Championship last season.

Toyota has a score to settle after coming heartbreakingly close to winning last year’s race. It was Porsche’s second consecutive Le Mans win since returning to the WEC in 2014, but victory still eludes Toyota after finishing second on five occasions. In its bid to finally capture this crown jewel of endurance racing, Toyota this year brings three cars against two Porsche 919 hybrids in the top LMP1 class for prototypes.

The Japanese team leads the 2017 WEC standings after winning the first two six-hour races at Silverstone and Spa.

Jostling for victory in the LMGTE classes for production-based sports cars will be the likes of the Ferrari 488, Porsche 911, Aston Martin Vantage, Ford GT, and The 85th running of the iconic Le Mans 24 Hour race starts at 3pm on Saturday. Corvette C7.
