Rapist kwaito star’s sentencing stalled

CONVICTED rapist and kwaito star Sipho Charles “Brickz” Ndlovu is not going down without a fight.

The music star’s legal team yesterday asked for sentencing proceedings to be postponed because they wanted more time to prepare.

The Sweety My Baby hitmaker was found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl in 2013 at his home in Ruimsig and was back in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court, where sentencing was supposed to get under way.

He was out on R50 000 bail throughout the trial, but this was revoked after his conviction.

Ndlovu then applied for bail again but this request was denied, resulting in the star remaining in custody pending his sentencing.

During Ndlovu’s brief appearance yesterday, his lawyer, advocate Piet du Plessis, said there were a few outstanding details that needed to be finalised.

Du Plessis was appointed after Ndlovu’s last lawyer withdrew from the case following the accused’s conviction.

“Today’s postponement was just to allow for the sentencing procedure to be completed, as well as the application for leave to appeal the conviction and application for bail pending the appeal,” he said.

State prosecutor Pratisha Salie indicated that the State had no issues with the postponement.

Magistrate John Baloyi then agreed to postpone the matter to September 28.
