High five for Drier

- DAVID THISELTON

DENNIS DRIER enjoyed a fantastic day at Scottsville yesterday, sending out a fivetimer and all of the winners look to have bright futures.

In the first race over 1 200m Anton Marcus used the Oratorio colt Sacred Flame’s early pace to move to the outside rail from a low draw and he galloped on to win comfortably by 2,5 lengths.

This franked the form of the much talked about Dennis Bosch-trained unbeaten three-year-old Billy Silver.

In the third race over 1 200m, the Trippi filly Salimah produced a strong finish to win in impressive style by 3,75 lengths under Sean Veale, into favouritism.

In the fourth over 1 400m Drier was thrilled to see his dual Grade 1 winner Seventh Plain overcoming a wide draw in the small field to get up close to home under Marcus. This five-year-old Seventh Rock gelding has had to overcome illness and hopefully this will be the turning point which will see him going on to fulfil his enormous potential. having

In the fifth over 1 000m another horse who has not been the easiest to train, the Australian-bred More Than Ready gelding Lloyd’s Legacy, made it a hat-trick for the combination of Drier, Marcus and owners Mayfair Speculators when showing pace throughout and going on to win by a cosy 1,75 lengths.

In the sixth over 1 000m, the King’s Chapel gelding Constantine secured a five-timer for Drier. It was an amazing win as he lost ground at the start before running on powerfully under 1,5kg claimer Diego De Gouveia to get up by a shorthead from She’s A Fortress.

The win thus denied the small stable of Corinne Bestel a double and it secured a double for China-based owner Hui Guo, whose Hartley SA (Pty) Ltd part-owns Constantine and is the outright owner of Salimah.
