POLICE HUNT FOR INDUNA IN MURDER CASE
The police national task team responsible for investigating political killings has launched a hunt for an induna from the Nxamalala Tribal Authority in Mpophomeni, near Howick.
The induna is wanted in connection with a murder and attempted murder case that took place in Impendle, which is a small town in the uMgungundlovu District in KwaZulu-Natal.
In a statement issued by the SAPS and posted across their social media pages, the induna was reportedly last seen in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape on April 3.
Police said a warrant of arrest (J50) has since been issued for his immediate arrest.
The induna was previously arrested on January 8 in Mpophomeni for being in possession of a stolen electrical transformer. When he appeared in the Howick Magistrate’s Court, he was granted R1 500 bail.
His case was remanded to last Friday where was expected to make an appearance in court but he submitted a doctor’s note stating that he was unwell and could not attend proceedings in person.
That case was postponed to May 8; however, a week later, the national task team issued its statement announcing that he is wanted for murder and attempted murder.
Police did not specify which murder and attempted murder case the induna may be linked to. However, a DA PR councillor and chief whip of uMngeni Municipality Nhlalayenza Ndlovu was shot and killed at Emasosheni near Mpophomeni last year. Ndlovu’s murder was allegedly related to electricity issues in the area that is under the Nxamalala Traditional Council.
Police are calling for anyone with information on the induna’s whereabouts to contact Lieutenant-Colonel Khumalo on 082 334 8910 or CrimeStop on 08600 10111 or send information through the MySAPSApp.
