Art in the Park offers a platform for people living with disabilities

-

Art in the Park, the esteemed exhibition which is celebrating its 60th edition this year, is not only a showcase of talent but also a beacon of inclusivity.

Among its participants is Khanyisile Ngcobo (pictured) from Mkhambathini, Maqongqo Area, whose presence symbolises resilience and creativity in the face of adversity.

Ngcobo, despite living with a disability, has been a steadfast exhibitor at Art in the Park for many years, enchanting visitors with her exquisite beadwork.

Ngcobo’s story is one of inspiration. She refuses to allow her disability to hinder her passion for crafting beautiful pieces of art. Her dedication and talent serve as a reminder that creativity knows no bounds and that art transcends physical limitations.

The Zizameleni Action Group of the Disabled, an organisation committed to empowering individuals with disabilities by equipping them with skills to generate income, shares in Ngcobo’s excitement. For years, they have been an integral part of Art in the Park, utilising the platform to showcase their members’ talents and contribute to their families’ sustenance.

Art in the Park plays a pivotal role in fulfilling the objectives of the Zizameleni Action Group of the Disabled. Each year, their participation translates into significant sales, making a tangible difference in the lives of the families they support. The exhibition not only provides a space for artistic expression but also serves as a means of economic empowerment for individuals with disabilities.

This year’s Art in the Park promises to be a momentous occasion, set against the picturesque backdrop of the KZN National Botanical Garden in PMB from May 1 to May 5.

Ngcobo and the Zizameleni Action Group of the Disabled eagerly anticipate showcasing their latest creations and sharing their stories with visitors.
