Party manifesto

- R.W. STARMER Pietermaritzburg

I refer to The Witness front-page article on Monday: “MK Party says it will reduce the number of provinces if it comes to power.”

The result of the promise to reduce the number of provinces would mean unemployment for many political cadres.

This could be a good thing if it releases money to provide electricity, water and sanitation for many people suffering from a lack of essential services.

However, there are many sections in MKP’s manifesto which spell danger, and I ask, will many South Africans make the same mistake as the Zimbabweans did when they voted Robert Mugabe into power and allowed him to take farms away from productive farmers?

We see the result with many people in Zimbabweans facing starvation.

It is so important for all South Africans to make themselves aware of the promises to be found in the MK manifesto and consider the disaster the MK Party will cause if the people allow themselves to be fooled into giving MKP their vote.

Here are just three of their promises which will wreck the South African economy and cause ordinary people a great deal of suffering.

The MKP’s manifesto promises to nationalise the land and transfer it to the state and traditional leaders who will manage it on behalf of the people. This is another chance for corruption.

Nationalisation will take away all incentive to work hard, to be able to purchase and own land, to build your own home.

The South African Reserve Bank will be nationalised, as will the mines.

If this happens, we will see the same result as in Zimbabwe — the rand will crash, foreign investment will dry up, unemployment will soar, many skilled people will emigrate.

MKP promises to create a national house-building scheme to build thousands of houses.

Its aim is laudable, but doomed to failure if Eskom and the railways are any examples.

If you think the ANC has failed in running government, you haven’t seen anything yet if the MKP or its partners in crime the EFF are voted into power.
