Sta-Sof-Fro is a trusted hair brand in Africa and has earned itself a loyal following over the years, thanks largely to the careful attention the company has invested into testing and formulating its products. The science behind the ingredients adheres to a strict commitment: to provide the best in the industry.

To date, Sta-Sof-Fro offers a variety of products to ensure that it caters for the everchanging needs of modern women. The rich heritage behind Sta-Sof-Fro makes it a preferred haircare brand for women, be it to enhance braids, blow outs, dreadlocks, dyed or relaxed hair.

In 1973, two registered pharmacists in the USA, Cornell McBride and Thurman McKenzie, started M&M Products in Atlanta, Georgia. Their purpose was to create a product for the African American market that would style the Afro – everyone knows that after combing out your ’fro, it shrinks back.

Sta-Sof-Fro allowed you to keep your hair length, while giving it a healthy sheen. The range was the first of its kind to actually soften natural black hair and, in so doing, make it more manageable – as opposed to straightening it. This gave black people the confidence to show off their big manes. The success of M&M Products was phenomenal. Demand exceeded production and within a few years, McBride and McKenzie expanded their offering, making theirs one of the fastest-growing companies around.

By the late ’70s, the emergence of the curly perm took the African American market by storm, and once again Sta-Sof-Fro was the preferred product for mantaining perfect coils. M&M Products became market leaders in the USA and Europe.

But in 1988, the owners of M&M Products sold the international business and in 1989 put their domestic division up for sale; that’s how it became a part of Johnson Products. But, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, 1995 saw M&M Products return to Atlanta and to black haircare.

Owned by a large family group, M&M Products have fully established their business in the UK and South Africa. Sta-Sof-Fro is still as good as it was. And so the great legacy continues...
