Victoria Falls, which the locals call Mosi-oa-Tunya (“the smoke that thunders), is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Victoria Falls is the largest waterfall on earth and lies between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Zambezi River carries water all the way from northern Zambia to this awe-inspiring sheet of water. The falls then plunge down a series of gorges and give off a spectacular mist that’s visible from a distance. The best time to visit is from February to May, soon after the summer rains, when the falls look their most impressive. Here are our top five suggestions for what to do there:

TOUR THE FALLS This miracle of nature is remarkable. It’s surrounded by greenery, sound, waterspray and the scent of nature. Tours of the Victoria Falls rainforest take up to two hours. Walk it on your own or take a guided tour to learn how the falls were formed and about the local traditions surrounding them.

A DIP IN THE AMAZING DEVIL’S POOL This rockpool is only for the brave. Devil’s Pool is accessed from the Zambian side, but you can walk along the lip of the falls and swim in the adjacent rockpools. The main rockpool is right on the edge – it’s nature’s ultimate infinity pool, with a view that’s unmatched. HELICOPTER RIDE OVER THE FALLS A once-in-a-lifetime treat, the ride includes a trip up the Zambezi and over Zambezi National Park and its wildlife.

SUNSET CRUISE ON THE ZAMBEZI A scenic, romantic experience with snacks and drinks served on deck. Spotting hippos or crocodiles is a bonus.

BUNGEE JUMP AT THE FALLS Here’s another activity for the daredevils. The 111m drop over the Zambezi is sure to leave you buzzing with adrenalin. Jumps are made off the Victoria Falls Bridge, which is just as scenic as the waterfall, and which marks the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
