Dandruff solutions
Scratching your scalp every minute? Well, here are solutions to help you say goodbye to dandruff for good.
If you suffer from flakes of skin that clump in your hair, also known as dandruff, it's little consolation that it's one of the most common, yet uncomfortable hair conditions. As the skin layer continually replaces itself, cells are pushed outward where they die and flake off. For most people, these flakes of skin are too small to be visible. However, certain conditions cause cell turnover to be unusually rapid, especially on the scalp. It's not related to hygiene, but washing and brushing the hair can help remove old skin flakes.
WHAT CAUSES DANDRUFF?
Dandruff is caused by dry skin, eczema, skin disorders, shampooing too often, sensitivity to hair care products or a yeast-like fungus. For people with dandruff, skin cells may mature and shed in 2–7 days, as opposed to around a month for others. The dead skin cells shed in large, oily clumps, appearing as white or greyish flakes on the scalp.
SYMPTOMS OF DANDRUFF?
Flakes of skin that are small and white to large, yellow and greasy. You may experience mild to severe itchy scalp.
TREATMENT & PREVENTION
Drink water and make sure your scalp is moisturised. Shampoo at least once every two weeks and treat your scalp with the right chemicals. Alternate the shampoo with a conditioning-wash. If you have sensitive skin, use non-medicated products. Regular shampooing will remove the flakes, reduce oiliness, and prevent dead skin cell build-up. Always rinse thoroughly.
