Hair Coil Types
Our hair comes in different patterns, sizes, textures and sometimes a combination of everything. Learn what works best for your crown
ISSA RAE Type 4B Coily Hair
Issa’s strands are thickly packed with a z-pattern, and the hair is naturally soft but prone to dryness and breakage. Make sure you keep the coils refreshed and hydrated at all times because the coils are thicker.
TIP: Use gentle cleansers and lots of moisture. Deep condition frequently.
CRYSTAL KASPER Type 3C Curly Hair
Crystal’s curls are packed very tightly and close to each other, forming corkscrews, which results in great volume.
TIP: Avoid heat — use stretching techniques like buns, twists or braids. Use a curl enhancer, wash once a week and moisturise often.
AMANDA DU PONT Type 4A Coily Hair
Amanda’s hair is s-shaped, tightly coiled and fine textured at the same time. The coils are tightly packed on her scalp, resulting in great volume. It’s also the most fragile hair texture because it has the fewest cuticle layers to protect the scalp from dryness, and experiences the most shrinkage.
TIP: Use a hydrating pudding that’s light enough to prevent the curls from losing definition and volume.
TRACEE ELLIS ROSS Type 3A Curly Hair
Tracee’s hair is bouncy, big and her curls are welldefined. It’s looser, with natural volume and tends to be dry because it’s prone to frizziness.
TIP: Invest in lightweight products that will provide a firm hold, like a curl reviver or curl definer. To curb the excessive dryness, try cleansing your hair with conditioner only, especially if you’re planning to do that on a daily basis.
