WHAT MEN WANT

Release date: 8 February When career-driven Ali (Taraji P. Henson) doesn’t make partner at work, she tries various ways to get the upper hand. A crazy girls’ night out lands her in the emergency room and she wakes with the power to hear men’s thoughts and ‘what men want’. Hilarious!

MARSHA AMBROSIUS, Nyla

Named after the muso’s daughter, this album sees Marsha reminiscing and appreciating love and life. The 16 songs show off her mature sultry vocals that we were introduced to during her Floetry days. Some of the tracks that stole our heart were Bottle Fulla Liquor, Scorn, Luh Ya and Old Times.

THE UPSIDE

Release date: 1 February Based on a true story, this comedy drama puts together ex-convict Dell (Kevin Hart) who needs a job to prove to the court he’s on the right track, and Phillip (Bryan Cranston), a billionaire quadriplegic who needs assistance. A heartwarming friendship develops.

TASHA COBBS LEONARD, Heart.Passion. Pursuit

This live album is amazing, to say the least! Tasha’s passion and the emotion in her voice can be felt on each track. A minister by day, every song carries an inspiring message and shares her anointing, trials, tribulations and relationship with God. This is meaty food for the soul.

THE GIRL FROM ST AGNES S1.

Set in the KZN Midlands, a popular student is found dead at the base of the old mill. The school declares the death a tragic accident, but one teacher starts following clues that say otherwise, and starts piecing together the horrific truth. A brilliant ‘whodunit’.

BUCIE, Rebirth

Her House Highness is bringing sexy soul back. Punted as her final album, Bucie ensured that Rebirth was a banger. It features the likes of Black Motion, Kwesta, DJ Mshega, Yemi Alade, Mobi Dixon and Mpumi. Some tracks we’ve heard before, but it doesn’t take away from the well-produced and thoughtout album.

THE WHALE CALLER

This captivating drama is based on Zakes Mda’s beloved novel

The Whale Caller. A man loves a whale he named Sharisha more than the woman who loves him. Will he be brave enough to connect with humanity again, and embrace the chance to love?

BUSISWA, Summer life

Busiswa is the queen of dance music, and this 10-track gqom album doesn’t disappoint. Infused with elements of kwaito, tribal drums, her catchy Xhosa vocals and unmatched beats make Summer Life a must-buy. The outro, Ndiyi Lantombi, which sounds more like a recital, provides a mellow ending and is one of the standout tracks.
