Once a year – for the third time running – we celebrate female trailblazers who are making a huge mark for women in our Class of 2020. This year is no different as we unearth hidden gems with phenomenal skills and talents. To our class of 2020 – we salute you!

It’s no coincidence that this annual celebration of women is perfectly timed for our Women’s Month edition of TRUELOVE. The team has ensured that every single page in this issue is the ultimate boss-lady guide.

Our career feature gives you a step-by-step guide on how you can work your way towards owning your own business and build an independent legacy. I believe that if women are empowered, they are more likely to uplift not only their families, but also communities. We also offer a guide to funding that brilliant idea you’ve always wanted to see come to fruition.

The style and beauty guide packs a punch with a fail-proof plan to ensure that you always look your best while running your own empire or scaling the corporate ladder – from bold suits to dramatic gold accessories. Add in popping cheek colours, statement red nails and unbreakable hair.

This issue’s special report is a must-read. For decades, women have watched as men flaunted their “boys club” connections to make major advancements in their careers. We zone in on how a similar network of successful women can help you elevate as well – we dispel the myth that insists that women can never support each other, and instead keep the door shut in order to be the only one at the table.

If you, like me, are clueless when it comes to cars, then you have to read our motoring feature that unpacks mechanical errors you may encounter, and gives you a sure-fire way to troubleshoot and resolve the problem yourself – without mechanics taking advantage of your lack of knowledge or having to rely on your partner.

On a sad note, in the month that we are supposed to be celebrating women, we are yet again mourning the countless number of women who have lost their lives at the hands of men. Gender-based violence is a scourge in our society that is going from bad to worse. Each year, the senseless killing of women becomes a temporary social media hashtag, and nothing is done about it. I, for one, am tired of this conversation. I’d like to see justice for these women. But, how? I honestly don’t know. But, I’m hopeful that the more we hold each other together as women, the bigger the impact we can make.

Happy Women’s Month, mbokodo!
