THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIRELESS EFFORTS TO FEED OUR NATION
To the unsung heroes of the coronavirus crisis, We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to supermarket employees at the forefront of serving South Africa during this crisis.
We are aware, now more than ever, that not all heroes wear capes. “Essential workers”, is a term that makes many think of first responders, healthcare workers, doctors and nurses who have played a huge role in the crisis. But grocery store workers have been the unsung heroes since day one, ensuring that we all had access to essential goods during the lockdown. We salute you!
You are crucial players working hard and putting others first to ensure that everyone else can put food on the table and take care of their families.
You have worked hard to bring food to our communities, keep shelves stocked and make sure we have everything we need during this coronavirus outbreak.
Our unsung heroes are on the frontline of the pandemic – from friendly cashiers and helpful till packers, to hardworking stockers and warehouse workers across our thousands of Shoprite, Checkers and Usave stores. It may not be surprising to know that two-thirds of the Shoprite Group’s 147 000 employees are women, coming to the fore and being there for us when almost everything was closed. Supermarkets have provided for us throughout this crisis and made sure they could provide, even when we feared essentials would no longer be available due to stockpiling. It was the supermarkets and their employees that came through to ensure we have provisions. This is the true spirit of ubuntu and together we can overcome anything. So, here’s a big THANK YOU for all you do. You are our heroes!
Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu – “I am because you are.”
