Nikki finally blurts out to her family and dylan that she’s his long-lost biological mom.

When Nikki (Melody Thomas scott) decides to fess up to her family about Dylan (steve Burton) being her son, the last thing that she expects is the subject of her confession to just stroll into the Athletics Club on Wednesday 13 August, right in the middle of her speech. To make matters worse, her other son Nick (joshua Morrow) picks a fight with Dylan, prompting Nikki to reveal the truth on Thursday 14 August before the brothers, who can’t stand one another, end up in a fight.
the twist in the tale
Nikki’s taken ages to spill the beans about the new addition to the Newman family – she’s known that Dylan was her son since mid-july. Melody says that her character was reluctant to reveal the truth because it’s such a “mind-blowing piece of info to lay on someone” and “like so many victims of sexual abuse, she holds herself responsible. she is so full of guilt and shame”.
Melody adds that she really loves her character’s latest juicy storyline. “And i love the flashbacks they’ve used with me and Doug Davidson (paul) that go back to 1980. it was so unexpected. it’s a very clever thing the writers did reaching into Nikki’s history and it makes it even better that we actually have the old footage of Nikki and paul in the cult – and it’s still the same actors. just when you think they’ve pulled everything they can out of Nikki’s sordid past, there’s more!” steve agrees. “i love working with Mel. she is so great,” he says, adding that “there is vulnerability there between us, and it’s not on purpose. it’s just something that is there. it was actually kind of there before it happened that we were onscreen mother and son”.

There’s been a couple of Y&R moms over the years who’ve also had to deal with the shock of being reunited with children they didn’t know existed, like… sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) miscarried in 1991 and stole lauren Fenmore’s (Tracey E Bregman) baby, passing it off as her own. But sheila’s mom revealed the truth and in 1992, the little boy was reunited with his real parents. in 2003 and after feuding for years, Katherine (jeanne Cooper) and jill (jess Walton) discovered that they were mother and daughter. But in 2009, new headwriters decided to rewrite the ladies’ characters’ history again and it was revealed that the information was made up. And in 2009, Adam (Michael Muhney) kidnapped sharon newman’s (sharon Case) baby to pass off as Ashley’s (Eileen Davidson) child. sharon believed that her daughter Faith died until 2010, when Faith was reunited with her biological family.
