The Older Doctor looks back at his life from 1935 after being released from the institution. In 1918, the Young Doctor is in a relationship with midwife Pelageya, who helps hide his morphine addiction, but they’re in big trouble because an inspector is coming. Then the Older Doctor’s travelling companion expresses his contempt for morphine addicts. The Young Doctor has a crush on Natasha, a visiting aristocrat and must keep covering up the morphine shortage he caused when the army needs medical assistance.
