candal!’s killer assassin is out for blood! wednesday 10 december sees dustbin man (mothusi magano) swear to destroy the man responsible for his father neo’s (jerry mofokeng) death in prison on thursday 20 november – his half-brother lerumo chabedi (tshepo mosese). or so he thinks. “in his mind, lerumo is responsible. but i think it’s also an excuse for getting back at lerumo for other things,” says mothusi. “there was so much that was undone and unfixed and he feels cheated.” the fact that neo treated lerumo like a son and dustbin man like trash still burns, but there’s more to this story than mere sibling rivalry. the first person dustbin man targets isn’t lerumo – it’s his mom beatrice chabedi (ferry jele), who’s lying helpless in hospital. on friday 12 december, dustbin man swears to lerumo that nobody lerumo loves will be safe and that he [dustbin man] will strike out of nowhere. lerumo finds out just how deadly that threat is on wednesday 17 december when a call to mrs chabedi is traced to dustbin man’s phone. but mrs chabedi’s doing her best to hide a terrible secret…
mother’s little secret
the truth comes out on thursday 18 december during mrs chabedi’s secret meeting with dustbin man. years ago, an eight-year-old boy named phehello mokhethi found his mom’s body after she committed suicide because her husband neo had left her for his mistress… beatrice chabedi. and that’s all that lerumo’s mom will admit, for now. but neo’s rejection didn’t just destroy one life. desperate for love, little phehello trained to become the sort of son he thought neo would be proud of. “neo dumped him in boarding school and left,” explains mothusi. “phehello got a sense of what his dad was and tried to be something his father would be impressed by. he tried to impress this man but he had no place in the guy’s heart and he didn’t see it. the same thing that happened to his mom happens to him, but instead of imploding, he explodes.”
mothusi magano played dustbin man for a year (november 2013-november 2014) before being told his character’s real name, phehello mokhethi.

lerumo’s drugged on friday 19 december and wakes up on monday 22 december… with something important gone. dustbin man tricks scorned hubby todani (lesley musina) into meeting with his wife, anzani (fulu mugovhani), knowing that they’ll fight on tuesday 23 december. and one by one, the pieces for a deadly chess game move into place as dustbin man begins to play by his own rules.
