learn more about the new ridge!

- the bold & the beautiful Weekdays SABC3 18:00

it’s great to have ridge back in the mix on bold, but are you used to the new actor playing him? while some fans might still be missing the former ridge, ronn moss, thorsten kaye has made the role his own. us audiences already know thorsten well from his days as all my children’s zach slater from 2004 until 2011, but over in south africa, we’re just getting to know him. so here are thorsten’s thoughts on showbiz romances, motorbikes and why he wrote a book of children’s poetry.

you and your partner, actress susan haskell, have two daughters, mckenna (11) and marlowe (7). what’s the secret to a successful showbiz romance? the only way that i can describe it is that you’ve got to keep it in your trousers. you have to fall in love with your on-screen leading lady, but you’ve got to keep it in your pants. what are the best and most challenging parts of being a dad? the most important thing about being a dad is to be there. second is to provide. however, being an actor, in order to provide for them, i can’t always be there. the best part of being a dad is just that: to be a dad and to watch them turn from babies into people. at 48, thorsten kaye is 14 years younger than ronn

moss, who’s 62. and you also wrote a book of poetry for children in 2009. what was the inspiration? one hundred percent of the proceeds go to paediatric cancer research – i don’t make a penny. one of my daughters had a friend with cancer. this little girl got better at first, then she got worse again and passed away. it affected us so much. i just started writing some poems for my kids. some of the names of children in the poems are my friends’ children. what was it like working opposite anjelica huston and the cast of smash (2012-2013)? anjelica is the most incredible woman i’ve ever met. she’s sexy and funny and smart. she really is hollywood royalty. so as often as i could, i would just sit after work having a drink and listening to her tell stories about her life. who from the bold cast do you hang out with the most? i don’t get to hang out with anybody. i don’t live in la. i get on a plane and fly home. that said, john mccook (eric) is one of my favourite people. he’s that rare combination of funny, intelligent and kind. he is the one person that grounds this entire show. and you love motorbikes – tell us about that. i grew up in europe and harley davidson has such a mystique. i got my first one at 18 when i came over to the states. i got my second one a few years later, it’s a 1987 model – i’ve always taken care of it and it looks brand new even though it’s 24 years old now.
