the cops are investigating a murder and the identity of the victim finally comes out in episode 5 (on 4 february). alison’s still in mourning because of the death of her and her husband cole’s (joshua jackson) child gabriel when the story started. she told noah that gabriel drowned in episode 4 (on 28 january). noah dreams of being a writer but his first book wasn’t a huge success and his struggles with writing his next book include the fact that he’s already spent his advance. noah’s rich father-inlaw bruce (john dorman) constantly pecks at him, in part because noah’s from a workingclass background and mostly because his deep pockets are bankrolling noah and his family’s lifestyle. there’s plenty of resentment to go around in this family. noah only finds out in episode 6 (on 11 february) that alison’s in-laws are the area’s main drug dealers.
