she never auditioned for the role of carol. she was “offered the role” in 2010 by creator frank darabont, who remembered her from her small role in the horror movie the mist (2007), which frank directed. her character was meant to be killed off in season 3’s fourth episode, but she convinced the producers to keep her. she starred in oodles of commercials before she made her tv series debut in a 1993 episode of the legal drama series matlock (1986-1995). she then popped up in a 1995 episode of american gothic (1995-1996), while fans of walker, texas ranger (1993-2001) will remember her as dr rachel woods in 1997. eagle-eyed dawson’s creek (19982003) fans might remember melissa from playing two different characters on the tv show. in season 1, she played nina, a woman who kissed dawson after a nasty break-up. then she returned for season 6 (2003) as a character named melanie. before joining walking dead, she was working as a casting director on a number of short films. melissa has two cats and a dog. lincoln log is her basset hound who sometimes wears hats and poses for portraits, which she posts on twitter, while her cats are named vangeline and sierra. in her spare time, melissa’s main hobby is photography, like her co-star norman reedus (daryl dixon). she does have one vice: melissa’s a self-confessed coffeeholic.
