The soup

-

while he’s not the biggest star on tv, joel mchale certainly knows how to crack a joke about hollywood’s big names. as the host of e!’s satirical hollywood gossip show the soup (2004-current), he has the perfect platform to playfully tear into celebs. but aside from trash-talking the high and mighty, joel’s also a dad, the star of sitcom community (2009-current) and a collector of aprons…

the 43-year-old comedian, actor and tv producer was born in rome, italy but his family moved to the us when he was only a few months old. he’s been married to sarah williams since 1996 and they have two sons – edward roy (10) and isaac (7). edward had open-heart surgery when he was just a few hours old after doctors discovered two big holes in his heart. joel says that this pushed him to live a healthier life. he tries to do 100 pushups a day. “at random times, i’ll drop to the floor to do pushups,” joel says. joel’s dyslexic and admits to having cheated his way through school. “i never could really read.” he still has issues reading off teleprompters when doing his hosting duties. his first job was at a drive-through coffee business called sam’s espresso when he was in high school. he’s since become a bit of a coffee snob and is often seen at coffee tastings in los angeles. he loves barbecuing and actually collects aprons. “i have one from kenya that my cousin gave me, i have a christmas one and one that looks like a denim skirt,” he laughs. he lists his appearance on kiddies edu-tainment series sesame street (1969-current) in 2011 as one of his career highlights. in the skit, joel had to describe the word “prickly” to a pineapple, cactus and porcupine.
