the bloodsuckers are back!
the vampire diaries Season 2 Fridays (from 20 February) SABC2 22:30
Season 1’s finale on sabc2 in april 2014 made it very clear that mystic falls will never be the same again in the vampire diaries (2009current). with elena’s evil doppelgänger katherine (both played by nina dobrev) showing up in town after 164 years, the salvatore brothers will have their hands full in season 2. after all, bloodsuckers stefan and damon (paul wesley and ian somerhalder) are who they are today thanks to conniving katherine, so this reunion between the maker and her progeny should be anything but dull.
season 2 picks up on friday 20 february right where we left off in the nail-biting season 1 finale. with caroline and tyler (candice accola and michael trevino) trapped in a car wreck, things aren’t looking great for them. but as we’ll soon see, anything’s possible in mystic falls… including bringing the dead back to life. caroline will be the first to sink her teeth into vampirism when katherine turns her, against her will of course. by episode 2 on friday 27 february, caroline’s bloodlust sees her make her first kill.
year of the kat
katherine will have a lot more to smile about as the season progresses. having taken on elena’s identity, she’s fooling everyone – including damon and stefan – that she’s the sweet elena gilbert they’ve been battling to win over since day 1. “you see how crazy she is and how everything she does is for herself. like boys and how she likes to use them as her toys. they’re just there for her amusement,” nina says about her character’s evil twin. fortunately, katherine won’t be fooling the brothers for too long and by episode 3 on 6 march, fans can look forward to damon and katherine going fang to fang. “katherine is the only one that damon fears,” ian admits. “she has a few more centuries than him and is stronger than him,” he grins.
a bad moon rising
meanwhile, the vampire-fearing town also has a new species to deal with now that tyler knows he’s a werewolf. thanks to a nifty magic spell, tyler won’t be changing into a hairy wolf just yet. “it’s latent,” show creator kevin williamson says about the werewolf curse. “it’s a repressed curse. it’s triggered by one particular event.” the first half of the season will see tyler digging through family history and town secrets to find out exactly what that “event” is and by episode 11 (which should air in early may), things will come to a shocking conclusion.
keeping it original
a couple of new characters will also make their unwelcome appearance, like klaus (joseph morgan) and his brother elijah (daniel gillies) – the original vampires of mystic falls (from vampire diaries spin-off the originals, 2013-current). “klaus will kiss you or kill you; it’s all the same to him,” joseph warns. other characters to keep a close eye on are bonnie and jeremy.
bonnie (kat graham) is a budding witch and is just discovering how powerful she can be. elena’s little brother jeremy (steven r mcqueen) is struggling to come to terms with being human in a town over-run by supernatural weirdos. if this season doesn’t have enough juicy supernatural action to sink your teeth into, we don’t know what will!
stefan, elena and damon are back for some vampire fun.
tyler’s got something to howl about in season 2.
caroline’s got a killer new outlook on life.
