Amandla’s runaway mom MaPhindi is back to dish a big secret.

Amandla (Lungelo Mandondo) was ecstatic when her mom MaPhindi (Londiwe Mthembu) knocked at the door on Tuesday 15 September. Now Amandla’s half-sister Smangele (Sihle Ndaba) and brother Sbu (Simphiwe Majozi), as well as Mastermind (Ntokozo Dlamini) are trying their best to stay polite, but they know that trouble’s coming. “MaPhindi’s unreliable and MaPhindi’s a liar, but more than anything, MaPhindi is a hustler,” warns Londiwe. And she has the mother of all hustles up her shiny sleeve!
THE DIVA
MaPhindi’s set to make a splash in KwaMashu. “Oh, she’s a diva, darling,” laughs Londiwe. “She’s an ex-model. She did beauty pageants back in 1994, 1996, 1999… she still thinks she’s trending. Back then, she had that long ponytail. Now it’s another century and she’s still coming back with that. She’s got her diamonds and gold and she’s got cocktail dresses. Her long nails and colourful lipstick and eyelashes. The costume is really [makes kissing sounds]… I love it.” But that beauty doesn’t come cheaply.
NO MONEY? NO PROBLEM
MaPhindi left Mastermind and Smangele to raise Amandla shortly after their father Maphumulo [we never see him] died. “I think she’s been gone maybe five years. Amandla was nine or ten,” explains Londiwe. “She couldn’t handle it. She’s not used to that poor, suffering lifestyle. She decided, ‘Let me just go and hustle. I’ll be back when things are going well. Maybe I’ll come back with some moolah and take care of Maphumulo’s children and my daughter too’.” But on Tuesday 22 September, MaPhindi tells Sbu and Mastermind that she wants custody of Amandla. Looks like Mama’s spotted her meal ticket.
DADDY’S SECRET
MaPhindi’s true nature starts to reveal itself on Wednesday 23 September when she meets up with her partner in crime – Richard Davis (Zahir Bassa), the guy who ripped off the Xulus. And on Monday 28 September, she exposes the identity of Amandla’s real daddy: Muzi Xulu (Mpumelelo Bhulose)! “MaPhindi and Lindiwe (Dawn Thandeka King) used to be the best of friends,” reveals Londiwe. “MaPhindi was sleeping with Muzi behind Lindiwe’s back.” But slick as she is, MaPhindi’s plot could all fall apart on Tuesday 29 September…
