Nandipha’s saucy secret is out. Will Ruth still love her future daughter-in-law when she finds out that she’s a prostitute?
When Olwethu (Zimkhitha Nyoka) notices that something’s up with her new aunt Nandipha (Keneilwe Matidze) on Wednesday 16 December, she decides that giving Nandipha the cold shoulder will get her new best friend to confess whatever it is that she’s hiding. Little does she know that it’s a secret she may have been better off not knowing when Nandipha comes clean on Thursday 17 December. Olwethu then runs to ma Ruth (Clementine Mosimane) and the fireworks start…
COMING CLEAN
Telling a teen girl a reputation-ruining secret is a guarantee that it won’t stay hidden, but Nandipha takes the high road to preserve her friendship with Olwethu. “Olwethu can see that she is hiding something,” says Keneilwe. “Nandipha’s upfront and thinks that she can confide in Olwethu because of the bond they have. She also knows that they won’t get along until she has opened up about her secret.” Nandipha reveals all on Wednesday 16 December and is shocked by Olwethu’s reaction to her working as a prostitute.
TATTLE TALE
Olwethu drops everything and runs to tell Ruth, leaving Nandipha feeling betrayed on Friday 18 December. “Olwethu is a [young] woman of integrity and she is what Nandipha wishes she could have been,” says Keneilwe. “She understands why Olwethu tells Ruth, because omitting what she knows would be akin to lying and she’s not a liar.” But on Monday 21 December, Ruth is less understanding about the news that the woman carrying her grandchild leads such a questionable lifestyle. “Ruth is upset. She believes that Nandipha has brought sin into her home,” Keneilwe says. “Ruth doesn’t understand that Nandipha was forced into prostitution.”
MONSTER-IN-LAW?
“The truth had to come out sometime, Keneilwe adds, but it’s not going to be easy for Ruth. “She wants to be part of the Gumede family with Nandipha and Big Boy’s (Mxolisi Majola) baby. She does not want to break up the family because she knows that if he has to choose, he’ll pick Nandipha and their baby,” she says. The reality of the situation hits Ruth and she realises that she may have to choose between accepting Nandipha and keeping her son and grandchild, or rejecting her and losing all three of them.
