BOMB SCARE
Bhekifa had planted a bomb to kill the Zungus during Gog’Mkhiti’s (Nandi Nyembe) funeral in September 2015, but when Qondi sacrificed her freedom by agreeing to marry him in order to keep her family safe, he pulled the plug on his explosive plan. But Bhekifa is nobody’s fool – knowing that her loyalty was questionable, he kept the unused bomb just in case Qondi ever gave him reason to use it. Says Vusi, “Bhekifa reminds her that there still is a bomb… any wrong move will see him use it.”
THE SEARCH IS ON
Bad- guy Bhekifa refuses to listen to his wife’s pleas on Friday 11 December and he activates the bomb. “The bomb has always been there [in the back of her mind] – it’s what keeps Qondi with Bhekifa,” says Vusi. “And now that he’s discovered her betrayal, he wants her to suffer by watching the people she loves die.” Panic ensues on Wednesday 16 December when the Zungus are alerted to the ticking timebomb and they start a search for it in an attempt to de-activate it and save their lives. But Bhekifa’s hidden it well…
BLOWING UP
On Thursday 17 December, worried head of the family Mpiyakhe Zungu (Siyabonga Twala) comes up with a plan to find the bomb: he’s going to the source, the bombmaker. But that plan may blow up in their faces when they visit him on Thursday 17 December. Says Vusi, “They search for the bombmaker, forcing a showdown between the Zungus and Chief Bhekifa.” And it looks like time’s up when the bomb explodes during the fight and there are injured victims lying everywhere. Who lives and who dies? “There will be the dead and the living,” hints Vusi. “In the wake of the bomb, a new beginning for those that have triumphed.”
