Bulelwa’s a no-show on what’s meant to be Fats’s happiest day.
After finding out that his fiancée Bulelwa’s (Tumie Ngumla) babydaddy Thabiso (Melusi Yeni) proposed, Fats (Mpho Molepo) knocks Thabiso out on Wednesday 3 February, just a day before Fats is set to say “I do” at the altar with Bulelwa. His actions don’t go without punishment though and Fats finds himself in a jail cell on the morning of the big day. But the big guy isn’t fazed. “Yes, he spent the night in a cell but he’s looking forward to marrying Bulelwa,” says Mpho. “This is the first time Fats stands up for himself and he’s proud of that.” So, after an overnight stay in jail, it’s now time to wed his bride. Or so he thinks. He has no idea what happened while he was dreaming of a happy ending with his ladylove…
RUNNING LATE OR RUNNING AWAY?
As Fats waits for his bride on Thursday 4 February, Bulelwa’s having an intense conversation with Thabiso. She’s worried about Fats getting arrested and is shocked that Thabiso could be so cruel as to press charges against her fiancé. Meanwhile, Thabiso’s threatening the bride-to-be against going through with the wedding. “Fats isn’t worried at all,” says Mpho. “He thinks she’s just being a typical bride who’s running late.” That’s until the bearer of bad news arrives holding a letter addressed to the groom. “At first Fats panics and worries that Bulelwa has been kidnapped and it’s a ransom note, but after he reads it he still doesn’t believe that Bulelwa would walk away from him of her own free will,” he says. “Fats isn’t sure if she was forced to write the note and he goes in search of her.”
NOWHERE TO BE FOUND
After searching high and low for Bulelwa fails to yield any results on Friday 5 February, Fats realises that she’s left town to be with Thabiso for good. Just as he’s starting to accept his fate, Fats bumps into Thabiso at Kilowatt and, broken, angry and embarrassed, he loses it. Fats is adamant that he and Thabiso have round 2 of their earlier fight but is met with a sobering revelation: he’s been dumped! “Thabiso says that Bulelwa chose to leave Fats and that he did nothing to persuade her,” says Mpho. “What’s worse is that he hands Fats the phone to speak to Bulelwa and she confirms that she left him – not because she didn’t love him, but because he’s better off without her.” With mixed emotions, Fats asks for one last thing from Bulelwa – to see her son Zama (Sithembiso Mondi) one more time before he moves on. And he’s surprised when his wish is granted.
FAREWELL, MY LOVE
“It’s not an easy break-up for Fats,” says Mpho. “He’s been in other relationships but never this real. He formed a strong bond with her son and that isn’t easy to walk away from.” Fats asks for one last meeting to say goodbye to him and his anger turns to sadness. “He’s disappointed with Bulelwa and there’s no chance of them ever getting back together, even if she does change her mind,” he says. “He’s torn apart and can’t believe he was so close to his happy ending,” says Mpho, adding that he was hoping this would be Fats’s last relationship because of its seriousness. “But perhaps there’s something or someone better down the line waiting for Fats…”
