How did this hosting gig happen? I was contacted by the producer about recreating a series in the US and discovered that the format would work better here because SA is way more interesting than small-town USA. Working with Bontle was a huge surprise because she was good for a first-time presenter. It’s great to be working with someone with a bright future in entertainment.
What drew you to it? I’m from smalltown SA (in Nelson Mandela Bay) myself and I know what it’s like to come from a small town and have big dreams and I would’ve appreciated such an opportunity.
What can we expect? This is by far my best TV experience – we have the best crew, concept… it’s beautifully put together. You’re going to laugh, cry, be inspired and also get excited. I can’t wait for people to see this.
What’s been your favourite act? So much of it really blew me away – it’s way more inspiring than I could’ve ever imagined. There were the wild and wacky acts that make for a good laugh, but there was also some good and some amazing talent!
And what makes the show different? Every other talent show makes you come to them, whereas we go find the people and see how they live, not just who they are. There’s so much heart and personality in this and it’s made me look at SA more positively. I never thought I’d get that feeling from a talent show.
