Isidingo’s been around since 1998 and it’s time to give their characters a makeover, starting with human rights lawyer Angelique (Shannon Esra). The soapie’s production team want to make things fresher, edgier and updated, says SABC3 make-up artist Amy Sprawson, who adds that the wardrobe and make-up teams were excited when they got the go-ahead for the revamp that’s been in planning for months. “Angelique is the first to get a new look and we were given a brief to make her look sexy and edgy.”

HAIR STORY

Amy decided to work with Shannon’s real hair rather than a wig. “We’re trying to make the change gradual and as authentic as possible,” Amy explains. “Angie was a straight-haired brunette, but now we’re aiming to create a lighter caramel colour. There will also be fudgecoloured highlights as time goes on. To create texture, we’re going to softly curl Shannon’s hair – this will also add lightness to her face.”

BLUSHING BEAUTY

As for Angelique’s make-up, Amy’s taking her from toned-down and demure to a sexy and sassy minx. “We’ve done A new hairdo and red lipstick are just part of the overhaul.

MAKING HER DEBUT

So how does Shannon feel about her character’s makeover? “It makes Angie look more sophisticated, feminine and romantic. She looked fine before but now she’s better represented and the hard aspects of her are now softer and sexier,” she says. Will the lawyer find love with her new look? “Along with her new styling, we’re also going to see changes in Angie’s life – there’s going to be a future love interest and a whole new side to her personality,” explains Shannon. While Angie is debuting her new style on Tuesday 14 June, the Isidingo make-up and wardrobe teams will already be working on their next makeover project – businesswoman Nikiwe Sibeko (Linda Sokhulu), so keep your eyes peeled!
