Detective Nkonzo (Menzi Ngubane) is crushed after the verdict is read on Friday 10 June and the guy he was looking to put behind bars walks free. Tsietsi Namane (Nyaniso Dzedze) is home on Monday 13 June after being found not guilty of killing his brother Monwabisi (Chumani Pan) in a fit of rage in August last year. Nkonzo was hoping to see Tsietsi in prison as the cop’s obsession with the Namanes came to a head during the trial, but now that justice has failed him, Nkonzo reveals what’s fuelling his hatred.

A CRY FOR HELP

Nkonzo searches for an ally in his war against the Namanes on Monday 13 June and tells his cop partner Detective Zungu (Nqobile Sipamla) that “they [the Namanes] pretended to sacrifice one of their twins for money and power but stole his sister’s baby and killed her instead of baby Reba (an adult now, played by Zenande Mfenyana),” says Menzi. Zungu is shocked but refuses to take part in any scheme in the name of revenge. “Nkonzo figures that since doing things lawfully didn’t work, he should now go the opposite route.”

HOSTAGE SITUATION

By Friday 17 June, Nkonzo feels that he has no choice but to confront the family on their doorstep. “He doesn’t know who’s home and the butler confirms that Mandlakazi and her hubby Selo (Nambitha Mpumlwana and Patrick Shai) are there,” says Menzi. Nkonzo then holds everyone up at gunpoint, demanding the truth. By the time that Selo reveals that the baby’s bones are in the backyard on Monday 20 June, the police have surrounded the house but Nkonzo isn’t concerned. “He instructs Selo to lead him to the grave but just as Selo’s digging, a sniper shoots Nkonzo and he’s arrested,” Menzi reveals.

BUT IT’S NOT OVER

On Tuesday 21 June, Nkonzo’s mother Ma’Mazibuko (Nandi Nyembe) visits him in jail and promises to finish what he’s started. “She uses a fake identity and gets work at the Namanes to dig up info that she’ll bring back to Nkonzo,” Menzi explains. “Nkonzo’s continuing to investigate the family from behind bars and they don’t even know it!”
