Blood & Oil
Season 1 M-Net Edge (*102) 19:00
Where there’s oil, there’s money… and drama. That’s pretty much what’s in store in 10-episode, single-season Blood & Oil (2015), a drama series set in North Dakota where oil and money are flowing after the discovery of a massive oil deposit. But so is the booze, secrets, lies and sexual tension.
Married pair Billy and Cody LeFever (Chace Crawford, aka golden-boy Nate from drama show Gossip Girl, 2007-2012 and Rebecca Rittenhouse, Nurse Dobler from Red Band Society, 2014-2015) move states to cash in on the oil boom by opening a laundromat near the oil fields. The young couple’s dreams go up in smoke after a car crash destroys their possessions, so Billy finds a job literally pushing mud in the oil fields while Cody gets a job at the local pharmacy.
That’s where Cody eavesdrops on oil tycoon Hap Briggs (Don Johnson, Nash from cop show Nash Bridges, 1996-2001) about buying new land. She tells Billy, who manages to make a deal to buy the land before Briggs can get his grubby paws on it. Hap is furious when he finds out that his “gem” has been snatched from underneath his nose but he’s still willing to lease the ground, paying Billy and Cody a small fortune – but nowhere near its true value.
There’s more drama for Hap, who has cut off his troublemaker son Wick (Scott Michael Foster, Leo from Chasing Life, 2014-2015). Wick schemes to steal oil from his dad’s companies and sell it under another company name. But this father-son fight isn’t going to just go away – one of them is going to be shot during a scuffle! “This is sprawling, epic, prime-time drama. It’s full of secrets, double crosses, backstabbing and sex,” says Don, promising that “the seven deadly sins are on full display”.
