DNA drama

Nosipho goes behind Mondli’s back to try prove that his babymamma is lying.

Mondli with his ex Mbali and “their” son Sibongiseni. Mon-Wed SABC1 (*191) 20:30

You don’t make a move on Nosipho Xulu’s (Nompilo Maphumulo) man and expect her to give in gracefully – not even if you’re waving a baby in her face. Nosipho has literally put in months of work getting hot Detective Mondli (Thembinkosi Thwala) to notice her, so when Mbalenhle (Lungile Mtshali) rocked up in KwaMashu on Monday 13 June and just “babied” her way into Mondli’s life and his house on Tuesday 14 June, Nosipho was furious. But what if Mbalenhe’s little boy isn’t actually Mondli’s son? Nosipho has taken stock of Mbalenhle and all she sees is a 24- carat golddigger and a liar to boot. “Nosipho feels that Mbalenhle has no style at all. She just sees her as a gold- digging vampire,” reveals Nompilo. “But she’s threatened by her cunning ways – she feels that Mbalenhle is hiding something.” And top- cop Mondli isn’t the only detective in this relationship…

WHO’S THE DADDY?

Normally making a fake babymamma go away is as simple as ABC, or in the world of soapies, taking a quick DNA test. But not this time. “Mbalenhle refuses to be open with Mondli and she refuses to take a paternity test to prove that Mondli is little Sibongiseni’s (Qhawe Dubazana) dad. She gets angry when the subject is brought up,” says Nompilo. “Mbalenhle is pressuring him that if he does take a test, even if it turns out that Sibongiseni is his son, Mondli will never see him again.” Mondli’s hands are tied, so Nosipho decides to take action. “With Thandeka’s (Sthembile Nyanda) help, she agrees to do it behind his back. At the end of the day, she’s willing to do all that she can to help the man she loves,” says Nompilo.

OKAY WITH THE BABY

Nosipho doesn’t mind that her man is a father and she has bigger fish to fry than worrying over some affair that happened before he even came to KwaMashu. “It was a shock and she was upset because of the way that she found out,” says Nompilo. “It was a surprise to her that Mondli didn’t tell her about it. She doesn’t mind Mondli having a child, but she does mind the babymamma. She feels like if it is Mondli’s child, they could raise the baby together – without the babymamma being involved.”

THE COMPETITION

And this isn’t a “wait and see” situation for Nosipho either. “Mbalenhe tries to seduce Mondli any way she can. She lives with him now. She’s in the house and she has the upper hand,” reveals Nompilo. “Nosipho trusts the love between her and Mondli, she trusts their relationship and she tries to help Mondli find out whether the son is his so that if he does raise the child, he’s not raising another man’s child.”

FAKE FACIAL

Nosipho’s scheming to get DNA from her boyfriend Mondli. On Wednesday 29 June, Nosipho sneakily offers Mbalenhle an at-home facial to apologise for all the attitude that she’s been giving her. “Nosipho’s not being sincere at all,” laughs Nompilo. “She wants Mbalenhle out the picture. The only reason she wants to give her the facial is to get access into the house so that she can get DNA samples from the child. Otherwise there’s nothing nice about the smile she’s putting on.” Getting a DNA sample from Sibongiseni is as simple as letting the tot briefly gnaw on an earbud, but Nosipho is going to have to get craftier when it comes to scoring Mondli’s sample on the sly. So on Monday 4 July, Nosipho and her pal Thandeka set their minds to strategising.
