The cast (from left): Uncle Malome, bestie Sihle, sister Ayanda, Thandeka, mom Sli and dad Bheki. Season 2 Wednesdays (from 29 June) SABC1 (*191) 19:30

Local sitcom Thandeka’s Diary (2015- current) returns for a 26-episode second season. It’s going to be a funfilled teenage trip with offbeat Thandeka (Busisiwe Mtshali) telling her audience once more about her strict parents Bheki and Sli (Skhumba Hlophe and Tumi Maritile), her irritating and nosy younger sister Ayanda (Katlego Dinga) and her adventures with bestie Sihle (Lwazi Lubanzi Mthembu). What about her crush JJ (Lindo Ntombela)? Turns out he’s so last season and Thandeka’s got her eyes on her classmate Bruce (Tefo Magengenene) now.

DIARISE THAT

So what all is on the way? Loads of exciting new chapters are just waiting to be written in Thandeka’s diary. Besides turning 18 (in episode 25, which should air on 14 December), she’s getting her first kiss, in episode 5 (27 July), becomes a bossy school prefect in episode 17 (19 October) and Thandeka also goes to her matric dance in episode 26 (21 December). Even though the prim-and-proper teen has mapped out her life, things don’t always go according to plan, so we’ve highlighted a couple of laugh-aminute episodes to diarise. Season 1 ended in May 2015 with Thandeka and her crush JJ paired together for a school project. Brainy Thandeka came crashing down to Earth when she realised that JJ is all looks and doesn’t have that much going on upstairs…

CELEBRITY WOES

In episode 4 (20 July), Thandeka is excited to have real-life actress Khabonina Qubeka (wicked gangster’s daughter Nina on Isidingo, 1998- current, since last year) give a speech at her school about choosing the right career path. Thandeka’s dignity goes down the drain when her dodgy Uncle Malome (Babsy Selela) bursts in to meet his crush Khabonina…

FIERCE TATTOO

In episode 6 (3 August), Thandeka’s “nerdy” status takes another knock when her too- cool-for-school rival Dee (Kgaogelo Monama) gets a tattoo and instantly becomes a playground superhero. As for Thandeka, she begs her parents for a “fierce tattoo” and runs away from home when they say no.

THE BLESSER

In episode 11 (7 September), Thandeka discovers that Dee has a sugardaddy – and even more shocking is that he’s one of their classmate’s fathers! Thandeka tries to talk to her parents about the situation but they don’t seem to see the severity of the problem… yet.

BIG BOOBS

Thandeka’s a late bloomer and in episode 20 (9 November) she gets carried away with stuffing her bra with tissues to keep up with her ample-bosomed buddy Sihle. This brings tears to Thandeka’s mom’s eyes because she can’t bear seeing her eldest daughter growing up and becoming a woman.

THE NEXT BONANG

There’s a presenter search at the school in episode 24 (7 December) and the only thing the kids can talk about is who’s going to be the next Bonang Matheba (unfortunately, the Afternoon Express and Top Billing presenter, radio jock and A-lister doesn’t actually make a cameo). And while Thandeka thinks that she’s got the prize in the bag, she needs to keep an eye on her loverboy Bruce, who’s ready to become TV’s next big star.
