Mbali tells her babydaddy, “Let’s get married”. Mon-Wed SABC1 (*191) 20:30

Poor heartbroken Nosipho Xulu (Nompilo Maphumulo) can barely dry her tears before she gets more bad news these days. Detective Mondli (Thembinkosi Thwala) dumped her on Tuesday 12 July so that he could stay with his babymama Mbali (Lungile Mtshali). Exactly one week later, he asked his cop partner Detective Dhlomo (Don Mlangeni Nawa) to stand for him in the lobola negotiations, and on Wednesday 20 July, Mbali suggests that the couple ditch the formalities and get married in court. But this rush to the altar is about to end in a spectacular crash…

QUICKIE WEDDING

On Monday 25 July, Mondli agrees to Mbali’s plan and the two head for the nearest magistrate’s court. “She does not want to involve her parents and her ex-husband’s parents,” explains Lungile, “so she convinces Mondli like, ‘No, this is the best because you know my family – they will embarrass us. So let’s not do that. Let’s just save money. We’ll go to a magistrate and get it over and done with.’ She just wants to avoid the family drama.”

SO LONG, MONDLI

But on Wednesday 27 July, Mbali gets a windfall that changes everything. “Her mom died a few years ago and now the insurance company is paying out the money,” reveals Mbali. On Monday 1 August, Mbali writes Mondli a “Dear John” letter and she sets off to travel the world. “When the money comes, she doesn’t even think about the family, her husband. All she thinks about is herself,” reveals Lungile. “She writes a letter to Mondli and she just leaves… and she doesn’t take her son Sibongiseni (Qhawe Dubazana) with! Her son has this perfect family now, so he might as well stay here now with his father. They have the house, and he’s going to be protected and well-fed,” explains Lungile. “It has always has been my own dream to travel the world but I would never leave my own son with a man that he barely knows. Yes, Mondli is Sibongiseni’s father but he never grew up with him.” Well, that ought to shock Nosipho right out of her tears!
