Hello there, Parsons it’s great to see you again! Weekdays SABC3 (*193) 19:00

Jewellery designer Parsons (Tshepo Maseko) returns to The Deep from Tuesday 26 July. We haven’t seen him in years – not since his sister Letti (the late Lesego Motsepe) died in a car accident in 2011, after which he left with a string of failed relationships behind him. Parsons won’t be in town long though – he’s just back to offer support to his half-brother.

BEARING GIFTS

Sechaba and Lerato (Motlatsi Mafatshe and Tema Sebopedi) are about to get married and have booked a venue for September 2016, but their finances have the couple worried. However, all of that is about to change when Sechaba’s half-brother Parsons pops in. Says Tshepo, “Parsons brings a wad of cash for the groom and the bride to spend on their big day. Parsons is living in Cape Town with his family and he’s earning a good living as a jewellery designer, plus he’s a hoarder when it comes to money, so he decides to give his half-brother a lovely surprise.”

BARE NECESSITIES

On Wednesday 27 July, Parsons realises that the cash he’s gifted the pair might be used for other things, like paying off their growing debt. Says Tshepo, “Sechaba has cold feet and Parsons is like a marriage counsellor – after all, he was married twice [to Nandipha, played by Hlubi Mboya and to Thandi, played first by Sarah Ngubeni and later by Vuyelwa Booi].”

SMALL FAMILY

Parsons isn’t in great spirits though – being back is heart-breaking because it reminds him of Letti. “When Parsons returns to The Deep, he’s expecting a big reunion, but so much has changed. There is no Matabane family, the Rec club isn’t what it used to be and there are sad memories of his sister,” explains Tshepo. But Parsons is excited and will stick around until the wedding.

WHERE’S HE BEEN?

Tshepo played Parsons for a decade before leaving in 2011 – he returned for a short storyline in 2012 before playing Senior Constable Modisane in SABC2 cop show Streets Of Mangaung (2012-2013). In 2014, Tshepo starred in Mzansi Magic drama Saints & Sinners (2014- current), where he played the father figure Thabang. He also guest stars on comedy Skwizas (2010- current) as Mmane’s (Lillian Dube) son Samson.
