Vanessa’s taking no nonsense. Weekdays SABC2 (*192) 19:00

A despondent Vanessa (Ingrid Paulus) might have been working at Bruynwaves since 2012, but she’s hating her job these days. Things have gone downhill since Altus (Heino Schmitt) left the business in November last year and on Thursday 21 July, Vanessa tells hubby Xander (Theo Jantjies) how she and her colleague Sifiso (Anelisa Phewa) aren’t seeing eye-to-eye and can’t agree on how to approach a new project. “Vanessa is frustrated,” Ingrid says. “And if things don’t change soon, she’s going to look for another job.” By the next day, Friday 22 July, Vanessa decides to stop agonising over her work crisis and do something about it. But not everyone’s going to like her drastic power-play.

“I PAY YOUR SALARY NOW!”

Vanessa’s back in the office on Tuesday 26 July with a spring in her step and a shocker for her co-workers. “She’s bought Bruynwaves from Altus over the weekend, so she’s the big cheese now,” Ingrid says. Sifiso’s lost for words but as soon as he recovers, he loses his cool and the pair have an argument. Ingrid says that Vanessa expected Sifiso to react negatively to the news, “But they need to look at the bigger picture: the future of Bruynwaves and that it has to managed in the right way.” But Sifiso doesn’t want to listen to reason and quits his job, then he storms out the Bruynwaves offices.

BAD ATTITUDE

Sifiso gets in a tizz and quits. In the next few episodes, we see Sifiso transforming into a grinch – he whines about his circumstances to his ex- girlfriend Pulane (Masego Sehoole) and on Tuesday 2 August, he loses it when he sees the Bruynwaves team in Oppiekoffie. Sifiso goes straight to Justin (DannJacques Mouton), who was appointed in Sifiso’s place on Thursday July 28, and starts intimidating him. Ingrid says that Vanessa can’t believe her eyes. “His behaviour is completely inappropriate,” she says, adding that Diederik (Hennie Jacobs) kicks Sifiso out of the coffee shop and tells him in no uncertain terms that he needs to adjust his attitude.

Ingrid says that her character will only consider re-appointing Sifiso if he gets off his high horse and apologises for his behaviour. “Vanessa’s first job was as an assistant at the sports shop T&T [in 2000] and she would never have dreamt of owning her own business. But she did it and she isn’t going to allow some arrogant youngster to get the better of her!”
